The Museum was founded in 1884 when General Pitt Rivers gave his collection of over 18,000 pieces to the Oxford University. Of course, the collection has expanded so today there are over half a million objects which number is continually increasing due to donations and purchases.
Here are organized many different events, exhibitions, researches, tours, and educational activities, so no matter when one decides to come there will be something interesting in the museum.
